You may have noticed that the display on your HomePod can show all kinds of colors. The best known is the multi-colored light and most users probably know what it means. But what does it mean when the screen on your HomePod flashes white? Or what if your HomePod mini suddenly flashes orange? We'll cover all options for the light and status lights on the HomePod display, both for the large HomePod and the HomePod mini.

Status lights on HomePod: what they mean
Between the first and second generation HomePod, there are some differ when it comes to the status lights on top of the display. If there is a difference between these two models, we will indicate it below:
- White revolving light: The HomePod is being updated or has just started up.
- White pulsating light: A timer or alarm goes off or the HomePod can be set.
- White solid light (HomePod 2nd generation only): Music is playing.
- White solid volume buttons (HomePod 1st generation only): Music is playing played.
- Spinning multicolored light: Siri listens, thinks or answers.
- Green pulsating light: You are on a call on the HomePod.
- Blinking white light (HomePod 2nd generation only): There is a problem with the HomePod. Unplug it for 15 seconds and then plug it back in. If this does not help, reset the HomePod.
- Blinking volume buttons(HomePod 1st generation only): There is a problem with the HomePod. Unplug it for 15 seconds and then plug it back in. If this does not help, reset the HomePod.
- Red rotating light: The HomePod is being reset.

The HomePod mini has mostly the same status lights, but there are some differences. There is also an extra status light, namely the orange version. Here's how:
- White spinning light: The HomePod mini is being updated or has just started up.
- White pulsating light : A timer or alarm goes off or the HomePod mini can be set.
- White solid light: Music is playing.
- Spinning multicolored light: Siri listens, thinks or answers.
- Green pulsating light: You are on a call on the HomePod mini.
- Blinking white light: There is a problem with the HomePod mini. Unplug it for 15 seconds and then plug it back in. If this does not help, reset the HomePod mini.
- Amber flashing light: The HomePod mini is connected to a Mac or connected to an underpowered power adapter. Use at least a 20W power adapter.
- Red spinning light: The HomePod mini will be reset.
Due to the smaller screen, the lighting may look slightly different. For example, the white burning light when playing music on the HomePod mini is a lot less visible than on the large HomePod.
