The tenant association Stockholm region and the companies referred the matter to the Rental Market Committee, which has announced its decision and an agreement has been reached.
– It is perhaps the highest increase we have had in 30 years. On the other hand, it is significantly lower than the nine percent that the housing companies demanded from the very beginning, says Erik Elmgren, head of the union at the Tenants' Association, to TV4 Nyheterna.
However, he points out that this has major consequences for the tenants.

– It must be remembered that households' finances are enormously strained and raising the rent by 4.45 percent will affect households a lot.
Stefan Sandberg, CEO of Svenska Bostäder, believes that the agreement is “reasonable”.
– The rent increase is higher than a normal year, but still does not cover the cost increases for rates, building materials, interest and ongoing management. Our ambition has been to meet our tenants and we will do our utmost to ensure a reasonable level of maintenance and a good service, says Jonas Schneider, CEO of Familjebostäder, in a press release.
