The free office suite OnlyOffice from Latvia has been released in the latest version 7.3 for the platforms Windows, Linux and macOS. OnlyOffice focuses on texts, tables and presentations and would like to present an alternative to the well-known open source office suites such as LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice.

OnlyOffice 7.3 is a modern office suite for creating text, spreadsheets and presentations while doing without a database application. The software collection, which consists of a total of four applications, scores particularly well with open source code and multi-platform support for the Windows, Linux and macOS operating systems.

The latest release contains numerous optimizations and error corrections for the modules “Document Editor”, “Spreadsheet Editor” and “Presentation Editor” as well as the “PDF Reader”. The official release notes of OnlyOffice 7.3 provide the following highlights for the Release in particular:

  • Better integration of SmartArt graphics .
  • Support for Unicode and LaTeX equations.
  • Various improvements in spreadsheets.
  • New features in presentations.

OnlyOffice now supports various SmartArt elements such as matrix, hierarchy, process and images in documents, tables and slides. In addition, the management of forms has been further expanded and new features have been added. Wizards now help create forms.

Documents, spreadsheets and slides can now be provided with significantly improved document protection to allow users only certain actions in the file, such as reading, filling out forms, commenting or tracking changes.

Interoperability with Microsoft Office

In addition, the developers want to further improve the interoperability with the class leader Microsoft Office, which is particularly dominant in the business world, and its XML-based file formats DOCX, XLSX and PPTX for Word, Excel and PowerPoint and have significantly increased compatibility.

Free apps for Android and iOS

In addition to the desktop applications, the makers of OnlyOffice provide free office apps for Android, iOS and iPadOS, which are available from the Google Play Store and the Huawei AppGallery and Apple's App Store.

Paid cloud integration

In the paid version, which is used as a home server for the non- commercial use costs 139 euros once and is designed for up to 10 users, users also benefit from partnerships with cloud providers such as Nextcloud and ownCloud. As known from Microsoft 365, the services can be started directly from the cloud, files can be shared or edited together.

Since the release of OnlyOffice 7.1, it is also possible to migrate data from Google Workspaces to the open source software.
