Microsoft integrates OpenAI's AI bot ChatGPT into its groupware and is now marketing it as Microsoft Teams Premium for $10 per month per user. The current AI language model GPT-3.5 is used, which can, among other things, automatically generate notes, tasks and highlights of meetings.

ChatGPT finds its way into Microsoft Teams

As Microsoft announced on its Microsoft 365 blog, the in-house groupware Microsoft Teams will be expanded to include a premium subscription, which has been expanded to include ChatGPT's artificial intelligence. The company previously announced an investment of up to $10 billion to further integrate ChatGPT with Azure and Bing.

The new premium tier of Microsoft Teams, which will simply be called Microsoft Teams Premium, includes an intelligent “recap feature” that can automatically generate meeting notes, tasks and highlights thanks to GPT-3.5, as well as branded meetings, custom meeting templates and features like watermarks to better protect meeting content.

The “recap feature” is intended to make it much easier to follow up on meetings that take place at inconvenient times or where the employees are in different time zones or outside the office.

Notes , mentions and a full transcript are available, with each speaker's contribution highlighted in a clear timeline with topics and individual chapters.

When a colleague mentions an employee in a meeting, they get a timeline marker to quickly see what was shared and discussed and why they were mentioned.

While most intelligent While features are available now, some won't be available until the second quarter of 2023, Microsoft said.

Many features are now premium

Microsoft is also using the introduction of Microsoft Teams Premium to push some features that were previously available to all Teams users behind the premium subscription payment barrier. For example, subtitles with live translation, custom scenes for organizing in Together mode, and a range of virtual date features are now only available in the premium version.

Live translated subtitles will continue to be available for a “60-day grace period” for regular users, and virtual appointment features will remain available for 30 days, after which a premium subscription will be required.

Microsoft Teams Premium can be tried out for free for 30 days and then until June 30th at a discounted price of $7 per month per user. After that, the premium subscription costs $10 per user per month.
