Netflix gives the most expensive Premium package some extra options. For example, there is a wider limit on the number of devices that are allowed to download films and series and the range of spatial audio has increased considerably.

Netflix Premium is the most expensive and most extensive Netflix subscription, which not only allows you to stream in the highest image quality, but also to watch on more devices at the same time. Another advantage is that you can download movies and series on more devices at the same time. This limit has now been increased immediately, so that you can watch offline on more devices within your account. But another extra has also been added.

Netflix Premium is getting an upgrade

Previously, you could watch movies and series offline on a maximum of four devices with the Premium account. As of today, Netflix has increased this to six devices. So these can be smartphones and tablets. Netflix says this was needed as more people travel and switch between devices more often. The six device limit applies to the entire account, even if there are multiple profiles. You can set up to five profiles per Netflix account, so now each profile can download movies and series on at least one device.

Another extra is the support for spatial audio. The Netflix Premium subscription is the only one that allows you to watch movies and series in spatial audio. Last July, Netflix already started with spatial audio on a large number of devices, but the offer was still limited. More than 700 popular films and series have now been provided with spatial audio. Among them are titles such as Stranger Things, Wednesday and the new movie Knives Out: Glass Onion. Suitable films and series have a special spatial audio logo. You can also search for “spatial audio” or “spatial audio” in Netflix search.

Spatial audio simulates the feeling of surround sound without the need for an expensive sound system. If you have several speakers at home, you will not notice much of the spatial audio, because you already have multi-channel audio (for example 5.1 or Dolby Atmos). Netflix says that the function is therefore especially useful on laptops and tablets and on smartphones with stereo speakers, where you hold the device horizontally.

For example, Netflix is taking measures against account sharing

The timing of this announcement does not seem entirely coincidental. Starting later this quarter, Netflix will begin taking action against sharing your account outside your own household. For example, Netflix will ask to confirm a device with a number code that will be sent by email if the account is opened from outside your own household. From time to time, Netflix may request this. To determine the household, Netflix uses IP addresses, device IDs and more. Devices can also be blocked from viewing when they are outside the household. You also have to connect to your own household's WiFi network every 31 days.

Netflix has already announced that they charge a fee in a number of countries. It is still not clear when all measures will become available and which countries will immediately participate. But the fact that Netflix is now giving Premium users some extras seems to be mainly a plaster on the wound. src=”/wp-content/uploads/db2c6885aa02602528b3ca80a5229abf.gif” />

No longer watching for free: Netflix will charge you extra for it from 2023 account sharing

Netflix plans to restrict free account sharing in 2023. You then have to pay extra to be able to share an account with someone else or you pay a surcharge if you watch Netflix outside your home address for a longer period of time. Tests have already been done before, but it will be rolled out more widely in 2023.
