Thanks to Siri, you can quickly recognize music tracks. Siri works with Shazam for this, but it is not necessary to have the Shazam app on your device. How does this work and where can you find the recognized music?

Siri and Shazam

The Shazam app (link) makes it possible to recognize music tracks at lightning speed, so that you can add that one music track to your library. But did you know that you can also use Siri for Shazam? This allows you to recognize music tracks using Siri, without having to open the Shazam app. In this article we explain how Siri works with Shazam and where you can find the recognized songs again.

Get Siri to recognize songs through Shazam

You may recognize it: you hear a nice song on the radio or in a shop, have no idea who it is or what it's called, but the song is almost over. Unlocking your iPhone and searching for the Shazam app to recognize the song might take too long. Siri is therefore an alternative and fast way to recognize music tracks. All you have to do is summon Siri and ask the name of the song by saying “Hé Siri, Shazam” or if you want to make it extra beautiful: “Hé Siri, recognize this number”. This can be done on all devices, such as your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. On the HomePod, let Shazam search for a song by saying “Shazam this song”. Siri then listens and tells you the name of the song and artist, which may or may not be followed by a funny statement.

Find Siri recognized songs

Nowadays, every song recognized by Siri on the iPhone and iPad can be found automatically in the Shazam app. This does not apply to songs you looked up with the HomePod, Mac or Apple Watch. Simply open the Shazam app and check My Music at the bottom. Don't have the app? Fortunately, there is another place where the recognized songs are stored: in the Control Center on the iPhone and iPad. You can find it like this:

  1. Make sure the Shazam Music Recognizer is added to the Control Center via Settings > Control panel > Music Recognition.
  2. Open Control Center.
  3. Press and hold the Music Recognition button (identified by the Shazam logo).
  4. You will now see the recently scanned songs.

Previously, songs recognized by Siri were stored in the iTunes Store app. The Siri heading is still available there, but new recognized songs are no longer added there. You can find this list of previously recognized songs like this:

  1. Open the iTunes Store app.
  2. Open the Music tab at the bottom left and tap the button with the three lines at the top right.
  3. You will find three buttons: Wishlist, Siri and Previews. Under the Siri heading you will find all recognized songs, provided they are available in the iTunes Store.

On the Mac and PC, the recognized songs used to be found in the Music app (or iTunes for Windows). That also applied if you had used Shazam with Siri on your iPhone, for example. Please note that it is currently no longer possible to find newly recognized songs via Siri on the Mac:

  1. Open the Music app or iTunes for Windows.
  2. Go to the iTunes Store. You can find this in the left column, recognizable by the purple star.
  3. Click on My wishlist on the right.
  4. On the right you will find the list of songs recognized by Siri.
  5. On the right you will find the list of songs recognized by Siri.
