SCB's GDP indicator gives an early picture of the development in the gross domestic product, GDP. It is compiled monthly and quarterly based on a more limited and preliminary statistical basis than the regular quarterly national accounts. The indicator's monthly results are outside the official statistics and are classified as statistics under construction..

GDP in December was 1.8 percent lower than the corresponding month of the previous year. For the fourth quarter as a whole, the GDP decrease compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year was 0.6 percent. Both December and the quarter as a whole had the same number of working days as the corresponding periods of the previous year.

The indicator's compilation of the last quarter of the year points to a development in GDP for the full year 2022 of 2.4 percent compared to the previous year.< /p>

– GDP continued to decline in December and, together with the previous months, gave a weak end to the past year. The development for 2022 as a whole landed slightly above the historical average growth of the last decades, which can mostly be explained by low economic activity in the first half of the comparison period in 2021 rather than by GDP clearly increasing in the last year, says Neda Shahbazi, national economist at Statistics Sweden , in a press release.
