Media. Statliga Sveriges Television chose a characteristic SVT angle when the media giant reported on the gang war in Stockholm this week. Namely, interviewing a child psychologist who warns that the 14-year-olds who shoot can feel bad.

Specialist psychologist Maria Bragesjö warned of the psychological consequences for children and young people who are involved in crime and expose others to attacks.

In the report, she also clarified that Stockholmers run a “risk” to lose these young residents early in life, as a result of mental illness.

– Many use drugs and alcohol to suppress it instead. We also know that there is an increased risk of suicide and depression, Bragesjö told SVT.

She pointed out that the stress and worry about death can cause regular war injuries, similar to child soldiers.

Bragesjö believe there will be more PTSD diagnoses linked to the gang war.

Many who have been traumatized from crime choose not to seek help, often out of fear of the police. It can lead to an increased risk of depression and suicide as well as the use of drugs and alcohol, according to the expert.
