The Advanced Air Mobility sector is proving more and more? dynamic also in Italy with the creation of new projects that will lead, in the coming years, to the birth of transport services based on eVTOLs cio? electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. For passenger transport services through these aircraft is already spoken? of “flying taxis“. We recently saw the SEA Milan Airports project for the creation of a network of vertiports in the Lombardy region. Let's talk about the structures dedicated to this type of aircraft.

Now, instead, the?SAVE Group,?operator of the Venice airport, presented a pilot project for the construction?of the first vertiport in Veneto which would be built in Chioggia. This structure? will? as a trailblazer for the initiatives that the North East airport system has developed, in line with the National Strategic Plan ?Advanced Air Mobility – AAM (2021-2030)? published by ENAC.

THE PROJECT

So, will the new structure for eVTOL arise? in the city area of Chioggia. The Municipality, according to what has been said, has already entrusted to the company? UrbanV is in charge of starting an analysis, with the aim of creating a preliminary Masterplan that will include the design of the possible vertiports to be created, the management of operations on the ground and in flight, the definition of a business plan, the analysis of possible routes and potential? intermodal, the possible electrical infrastructures, the activities? cargo and other use cases.

Recall that the company? Urban V ? was established in 2021 by the SAVE Group, with Rome Airports, Bologna Airport and Côte d'Azur Airports. The project obviously goes beyond the city? of Chioggia in which it will rise? the first facility for “flying taxis”. The Venice airport, for example, will host two vertiports.

The mobility plan? advanced aviation provides for a system of over a dozen vertiports which, starting from Venice, will connect the entire North-East reaching as far as touching the territories of Cortina, Brescia and Bologna. An innovation that will integrate, following an intermodality model, with the current transport network, thus to reduce travel times between Veneto, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna.

Will the new multiports also make it possible to create the first “flying taxi” services? In view of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics. As he says ?Mauro Armelao, Mayor of Chioggia, in a few years, when these services will be active, will it be possible? How to reach Venice airport from the city? in just 15 minutes.

On paper, all these projects that are emerging in Italy are very interesting. Isn't that left? wait for new information to understand how they will evolve and if these transport services will really become a reality in a few years.
