Finland previously had the main line to join NATO together with Sweden.

“We submitted the NATO application together, we will also complete the process together,” said the foreign minister Pekka Haavisto as recently as two weeks ago at the People and Defense conference.

But now, according to Haavisto, you may be forced to abandon that line if the Swedish application takes too long due to the increasingly infected conflict with Turkey.

– Of course we still have to evaluate the situation if it turns out that Sweden's application will be stuck for a long time to come, says the Finnish foreign minister to Yle.

Haavisto also criticizes the demonstrations in Sweden as he means slowing down Finland's and Sweden's NATO membership and “playing with Finland's and Sweden's security”.

Sweden's Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) tells SVT that on Tuesday morning he contacted his Finnish colleagues to get an explanation for the outcome.

– We are in contact with Finl and to find out what is actually meant, says Billström.
