Exceptional ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin achieves an impressive career record in the giant slalom in Plan de Corones. The American is now the sole record holder with 83 World Cup successes.

In Kronplatz for the 83rd time in her World Cup career, the fastest: Mikaela Shiffrin

“I was a bit afraid of that day because I was afraid that my feelings would go crazy would play,” said Mikaela Shiffrin in the winner's interview after her 83rd World Cup victory. She hid her emotions behind thick, gold-colored sunglasses. She had just achieved her record victory with a brilliant run as the best of the first round and thus the last starter in the giant slalom on Kronplatz. A golden crown was placed on her at the awards ceremony. With the success, she became the sole record holder in the alpine women. So far, the American had shared the top of the all-time list with her compatriot Lindsey Vonn, who retired in 2019. Now she has one more success than her ex-teammate.

Shiffrin had her ninth win of the season on Tuesday, 0.45 seconds ahead of second-placed world champion Lara Gut-Behrami from Switzerland. Third place went to Federica Brignone from Italy (+1.43 seconds) in her home race on the edge of the Dolomites. The only German starters, Jessica Hilzinger and Andrea Filser, did not make it into the second round at the event in South Tyrol.

Only Stenmark

In the all-time World Cup record list now only Ingemar Stenmark with his all-time record of 86 World Cup victories ahead of Shiffrin. It is almost obvious that this record will fall. Shiffrin is only 27 years old and will still have a few races before she finally ends her successful career.
