Foreign. The temperature in Mohe, China's northernmost city, dropped to minus 53 degrees on Sunday. It is the lowest temperature ever recorded, China Daily reports.

The figure means that the previous record of minus 52.3 degrees Celsius has been broken.

Temperatures in Mohe in Heilongjiang Province have now dropped below minus 50 degrees for three consecutive days .

Several other areas around the Stora Hinggan mountain range have also recorded their coldest temperatures ever.

Mohe has an annual ice and snow period of up to eight months, with an annual average temperature of around minus 3 degrees.

During the ongoing “Spring Festival” in Heilongjiang, tourists and locals are now being asked to stay warm. The authorities also warn that there may be traffic accidents due to the extreme cold.
