Hands-on videos and experiences with MacBook Pro 2023

The first hands-on experiences with the MacBook Pro 2023 can now be found online, both in written articles and in videos. What does the international media think of this new MacBook with faster chips and longer battery life? You read and see it here!

First impression of MKBHD

Marques Brownlee shows in his video the first experiences with the MacBook Pro. As usual, he is quite thorough and also tells some interesting tidbits.

Hands-on at TechCrunch

TechCrunch's Brian Heater thought the MacBook Air with M2 was almost the perfect MacBook. But now there is something faster. It is the confirmation of the ‘Pro’ in MacBook Pro: it's a bit bigger and heavier, but very fast, with lots of ports and the best you can get from Apple right now. This is not for everyone, not even for the majority. The Air is still the best choice for 9 out of 10 people. But if you're that 10th person, then this MacBook Air is for you.

The Verge first impression

Monica Chin has denounced the 16-inch MacBook Pro. She calls it the best combination of performance and efficiency. The M1 Max was the logical choice for people who wanted maximum CPU power in 2021. This is no longer the case with the M2 Max: Intel and AMD will also have fast processors with many cores in 2023. But where Apple excels is the battery life: with 22 hours you're in the right place.

CNET first impression

Lori Grunin thinks that the previous generation 16-inch MacBook Pro is still quite good. But if you don't have Apple Silicon yet, now is the time to make the leap. At least… if you don't depend on apps that still run on Intel. For a more detailed recommendation, however, she needs to test even longer. For example in the field of video editing and encoding. She did notice that the WiFi was more stable on 6E than on 6. The speed was also higher.

Engadget first impression

Devindra Hardawar of Engadget recorded an extra three hours of battery life compared to the previous generation. She calls it a “blessing for creatives”, the only downside being the higher price. Other than that, there are only positives: the much faster M2 Max chip, the great audio system, so many useful ports… But also the sleek and sturdy design, the keyboard and the screen, everything is top.

First impression of Tweakers

For the Dutch media we have chosen the review of Tweakers. According to the reviewer, this is a “sturdy, beautifully finished laptop, with a mini LED screen that provides a beautiful (HDR) image and is also well calibrated”.

The response times are unfortunately a bit bad for a 120Hz screen. The 2023 update brings a 20 percent faster processor than the M1 and an approximately 25 percent faster GPU. Furthermore, Wi-Fi 6E and HDMI 2.1 are now available. It is a pity that this relatively modest update is accompanied by a price increase of two to three hundred euros. The upgrades have also not become cheaper.
