Domestic. The police agency in Stockholm has “totally failed” in its fight against violence in criminal environments, according to homicide investigator Caroline Asplund.
– The crime scene does not take into account that we are a sluggish authority, she tells SVT.

Detection rates for fatal gun violence in these settings have dropped sharply since 2015, when only one in four fatal shootings led to convictions.

Caroline Asplund believes the police are too quick to to blame other actors, such as social services and schools, and that the police authority should also be self-critical when it comes to gang-related murders.

– When this type of crime occurs, only the police investigate. It's not the soc or the school that investigates, it's just us, she tells SVT Nyheter.

Associate professor in criminology Amir Rostami warns that the decreasing degree of investigation can lead to murders being seen as risk-free in criminal environments.

He believes that the police authority must improve its strategy in order to effectively combat the violence in these environments.
