Now the pressure is increasing on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to say definitively no to Swedish entry into NATO.
By 6 p.m. on Saturday, tens of thousands of Turks had tagged their posts with the tag # StopSweden, including several cultural figures, celebrities and local politicians.
The Turkish nationalist party MHP, which President Erdogan depends on to get a possible NATO application through the parliament, gave a definitive statement on Saturday that they will not ratify a Swedish application.
At the same time, Sweden's view on freedom of expression has raised many questions in Turkey, where people wonder why exactly incitement against Islam is allowed in Sweden at the same time as the country regularly sentences people for incitement against ethnic groups when it comes to incitement against other groups.
