Update 20 January 2023: Porsche has updated the Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus system. This is a CarPlay built-in system, intended for people with a Boxster, Cayman or Cayenne. The PCCM Plus system can be retrofitted and is suitable for the 997 Porsche 911 (sold between 2004 and 2012), the 987 Porsche Boxster (sold between 2005 and 2012), the 2005-2008 Porsche Cayman and the first generation Porsche Cayenne from 2003-2008. This replaces the original audio system in double DIN format. The device can play music via Bluetooth and USB sticks. The system costs around $1,500 in the US and should preferably be installed by a dealer. In 2020, Apple released similar CarPlay kits for previous cars, going back to Porsche 911s from the 1960s!

Put CarPlay in your Porsche classic

Due to the size, they fit in almost every Porsche classic. Normally you buy such aftermarket systems from manufacturers such as Alpine and Pioneer, but that may not fit well with your classic Porsche. The car manufacturer therefore makes them itself. The 1-DIN system has a 3.5-inch touchscreen, two dials and six normal buttons. It looks like a classic radio. It fits almost all models, from the 1960s 911 to the 933.

The double DIN version has a larger 7-inch touchscreen, but with the same buttons. This fits the 996, 911 and 986 Boxster. The CarPlay systems also offer Bluetooth and DAB+ for your Porsche. It has a USB port, an AUX port and an SD card slot.

The system is called Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM) and it brings all contemporary technology of an entertainment system to the single DIN format. The double DIN system is called Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus, something Porsche has not done before.

It will cost you a good amount of cracking. The 1-DIN variant costs €1439.89 and for the double DIN format you have to spend €1606. They are only available in Europe, although the 1-DIN model will eventually also come to the United States, with built-in SiriusXM radio.
