As an alternative to a classic landline connection, 1&1 is now offering what is known as Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), which connects at home via the mobile network. The new tariff “1&1 5G at home” offers up to 500 Mbit/s in the downlink and is offered with data packages of different sizes from EUR 19.99.
FWA can This can be particularly useful for customers if there is simply no other method for a classic landline connection available in the region or the speeds of old DSL connections are just 16 Mbit/s too low for many modern applications such as streaming and large downloads stand out. If the mobile network is sufficiently developed in the region, an alternative to the fixed network can be made available via the wireless connection.
1&1 starts 5G network in Frankfurt and Karlsruhe
According to its own statement, 1&1 wants to use FWA to offer a replacement for “conventional DSL, fiber optic or cable Internet connections”. For this purpose, up to 500 Mbit/s in the downlink and up to 40 Mbit/s in the uplink are made available in the 5G network. At the same time, the provider announced that it had put its first antennas for its own 5G network into operation in Frankfurt and Karlsruhe with immediate effect. The expansion will be continued successively, so that FWA will be available in other regions in the coming weeks. With 5G, 1&1 has so far logged into the Telefónica/O2 network.
Packages from 50 GB for 19.99 euros
1&1 offers the 5G tariff for at home in three levels, starting with 50 GB data volume for 19.99 euros per month. After the included data volume has been used up, the provider reduces the downlink to 384 kbit/s.

5G router optionally with external antenna
The new offer is accompanied by new routers that come from AVM. Depending on the type of reception, a distinction is made between two models: The 1&1 HomeServer 5G comes with an integrated 5G antenna and costs EUR 6.99 per month, while the 1&1 HomeServer+ offers an external antenna and costs EUR 9.99 per month. The external antenna is very compact, explains the provider, and is glued to the outside surface of a window. A thin ribbon cable connects the antenna to the 1&1 HomeServer+. The window can remain closed.
In addition to these additional costs, there is a one-time provision fee of EUR 39.95.
