Asus has once again set numerous new world records in the field of overclocking and with an Intel Core i9-13900KS, which will be presented at the specialist and Industry trade fair CES 2023 is to be presented, the previously “hard” barrier of 9 GHz has been broken for the first time.
The world's first CPU breaks the 9- GHz barrier
After the Asus ROG overclocking team was only able to operate an Intel Core i9-13900KF with 8.2 GHz and then with a new world record clock of 8.8 GHz in October of this year, the extreme overclockers have now succeeded in creating a x86 processor running at 9 GHz for the first time ever.

The manufacturer shared about the new world record that was achieved based on an Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Apex the following key data:
- Intel Core i9-13900KS Engineering Sample @ 9,008.82 MHz
- Achieved with a bus clock of 100.2 MHz and a multiplier of × 90.0
- Cooled to a temperature of around 24.15K (– 249 °Celsius) under normal pressure with liquid helium
- Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Apex with modified BIOS and various mods
- Starting from the standard 6.0 GHz*, an overclocking of more than 50 percent

The 9 GHz that has now been achieved for the first time has been considered an almost insurmountable barrier since 2014, when the overclocker “The Stilt” was able to achieve more than 8.7 GHz with an AMD FX-8370 (test).
Asus sets 14 new world records
A total of 14 new world records and 29 new best values are achieved in individual benchmarks, including a PiFast run in just 6.85 seconds and a new best performance in SuperPi with around three minutes.
Intel reveals Core i9-13900KS in video
Intel itself has a video “Asus pushes Intel Core i9-13900K to 9,008 MHz” but reveals several times in the screenshots from the CPU tool CPU-Z that it is a Core i9-13900KS or a corresponding development pattern.
