You want to take beautiful pictures of your food, keep a food diary and write down which delicious wine you drank. The iPhone also comes in handy if you want to ask for extra mayonnaise in French. Then of course we put the iPhone away for a while, because we also have to enjoy ourselves!

- Foodie – Camera for life (Free, iPhone, iOS 12.0+) – One of the apps you can use for this is Foodie. This app is all about taking food photos. You can put a number of filters over the food that will make your food still look delicious.
- VSCO: Photo and Video Editor (Free, iPhone/iPad/TV + IAP, iOS 14.0+) – Another app you can use to edit your photos is VSCO. This app is not specialized in food photos, but it does offer a lot of options to edit your photo. You can get started with the standard filters, purchase extra filters or get started with settings such as exposure, contrast and brightness. VSCO has a slightly more arty streak.
- Snapseed (Free, iPhone/iPad, iOS 12.4+) – A cheap yet good solution is Snapseed. With this photo editor from Google you have all kinds of filters, which you can also compile yourself. For example, we have created our own filter that optimizes food photos. Especially with dark colored dishes it can be difficult to see details and Snapseed can lighten this up a bit with the right filters.
- My Eating Meter (Free, iPhone, iOS 12.0+) – This is a food diary of sorts. You keep track of what and how much you eat on a given day and the app tells you how many calories you have consumed. You also get to see how many sugars, carbohydrates, proteins and other substances were in the food. The disc of five is added to see whether you have received enough of each type of nutrient and what the recommended amount is. The app is in Dutch and is made by the Netherlands Nutrition Center.
- MyFitnessPal: Calorie Counter (Free, iPhone/iPad/Watch + IAP, iOS 14.0+) – This app contains a database of millions of foods from around the world. So you can use it at home and on vacation. At home, you scan the barcode on the packaging to easily add food. Of course that doesn't work if you're in a restaurant, but luckily many popular dishes are included.
- Lifesum: Healthy Eating (Free, iPhone/iPad/Watch + IAP, iOS 13.0+) – Lifesum is a comprehensive app that does more than just keep track of everything you eat in a day. You will also find recipes there and can even put together entire diet plans based on the data you entered. If you only want to use the app to register your meals, you can do that too. In the extensive reports you can see exactly what you eat in a day.
- Vivino: Order the right wine (Free, iPhone, iOS 14.0+) – Vivino is the best wine recognition app in our opinion. You just have to take a picture and get all the info on a silver platter. You can also leave ratings and enter the price you paid yourself.
- WineRatings+ by Wine Spectator (Free, iPhone/iPad + IAP, iOS 12.0+) – Is it mainly about expanding your wine knowledge, then this app is recommended. You can follow trends, see whether a certain wine can already be drunk, or whether it is better to wait a little longer.
- WineStein wine advisor (Free, iPhone/iPad + IAP, iOS 13.0+) – WineStein is a wine advisor in Dutch. This way you always have a personal sommelier in your pocket. You enter the dishes and WineStein looks for a suitable wine.
- Gault&Millau Benelux (Free, iPhone/iPad , iOS 13.0+) – If a Michelin restaurant is a bit overpriced, but you still want good food. Gault&Millau stands for good quality restaurants for a reasonable price.
- TheFork – book restaurants (Free, iPhone/iPad, iOS 14.1+) – TheFork is the best-known restaurant reservation app in the Netherlands. Deals are sometimes also made with restaurants that want to attract more people.
- OpenTable: Restaurant Bookings (Free, iPhone/iPad, iOS 15.0+) – OpenTable is often a better choice abroad. Perfect if you don't feel like talking on the phone in a foreign language and just want to choose a time slot.
- Food Intolerances (Free, iPhone/iPad + IAP, iOS 12.0+) – Look up over 900 foods and see if they are for are suitable for you. Also works offline.
- Allergy & Vegan Scan : Soosee (Free, iPhone/Watch + IAP, iOS 14.0+) – Made by a Dutchman and mainly aimed at people with allergies. You can also check whether certain ingredients are vegan.
- mySymptoms Food Diary (€6.99, iPhone/iPad, iOS 9.0+) – Still got upset stomach, bloating or lethargy after eating a dish you didn't know well? Then you can keep track of your symptoms with this app.
- HappyCow Find Vegan Food ($4.99, iPhone/iPad, iOS 13.0+) – Perhaps the best-known app for finding vegetarian and vegan restaurants. Check out what's going on in your area or choose the type of cuisine.
- ProVeg Veggie Challenge (Free, iPhone/iPad, iOS 12.0+) – You can do it! Participating in the Veggie Challenge means eating less meat, no meat at all, or no animal products for 30 days.
- Forks Plant-Based Recipes ($5.99, iPhone, iOS 10.0+) – Unfortunately in English, but then you have the most extensive collection of recipes with plant-based recipes.
- DeepL Translate (Free, iPhone/iPad, iOS 15.6+) – The alternative to Google Translate and a lot smarter. DeepL uses machine learning to make the translations sound more natural and takes into account the context (e.g. food and drink).
