“Never under 35 years have taken a stand for any government or party. But when a government, with a supporting party, whose own white paper shows that several of the party's founders were Nazis, withdraws support for SKMA, which fights anti-Semitism and teaching about the Holocaust – that's where the line is.”

So wrote Owe Nilsson in a Twitter post on December 2.

Now he has left the news agency, where he has worked for a full 38 years . This despite the fact that the now 67-year-old left-wing journalist would not actually retire until 2024, according to Expressen.

After the tweet, the management decided to downgrade Nilsson to editor, which he did not want to agree to. He also suggests that TT was influenced by the fact that representatives from the government got in touch and criticized the post.

To Expressen, Owe Nilsson states that he realizes in retrospect that he got away with the tweet. However, he is careful to state that TT's management does not share his views on the government.

– There is no defense, but SKMA is very close to my heart. It was an overstep to write that tweet and I completely agree with TT that they have to react to that. However, we do not agree on how they reacted and that is the conflict that could not be resolved, he tells the newspaper.
