Manjaro Linux 22.0 (“Sikaris”): The Arch class leader was released with Linux 6.1 LTS

The popular distribution Manjaro Linux, the undisputed class leader among the almost innumerable derivatives of Arch Linux, has now been released in the new version 22.0 based on the latest free operating system kernel Linux 6.1 LTS. Also included are the free desktops Xfce 4.18, Gnome 43.2 and KDE Plasma 5.26.4.

New kernel, new desktops, new software

Manjaro Linux 21.3.0 (“Ruah”) with Gnome 42 is followed by updated installation media of the very popular Arch Linux derivative with the updated Gnome Shell in the latest version 43.2. In addition to the “Gnome Edition”, there is also a “Plasma Edition” with KDE Plasma 5.26.4 and an “Xfce Edition” with the very resource-saving Xfce 4.18 user interface. All versions are already available for download on the official project servers and SourceForge.

< p class="p text-width">In addition to the three free desktops of the official derivatives, which are flanked by a total of six community editions, all relevant applications, libraries, runtime environments and tools have also been updated.

      • Applications such as the open source browsers Mozilla Firefox 108.0.1 and Chromium 108.0 as well as the free e-mail client Thunderbird 102.6 and LibreOffice 7.4.3 are up to date.
      • The same applies to runtime environments and libraries such as Mesa 3D and the programming language Python.

    The community editions also provide the working environments Budgie, Sway and den Cinnamon desktop known from Linux Mint as well as the i3 window manager and the MATE Desktop Environment.

    Mesa 22.3.1 for RDNA 3 and Vulkan 1.3

    The Mesa 22.3.1 graphics stack, which is particularly essential for gaming under Linux, with support for the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and XT (test) based on RDNA 3 and the free Vulkan 1.3 graphics API is also on board. In addition, the KDE Frameworks and KDE Gear have been updated to the latest versions 5.101 and 22.12.

    • Pipewire is at 0.3.63
    • XFCE got finally updated to 4.18

    • Thunderbird is at 102.6.0

    Starting point for your own operating-point

    As is typical for an operating system based on Arch Linux, Manjaro Linux can also be extensively customized and can serve as the basis for your very own Linux distribution.

    Update to Manjaro Linux 22.0 via Pacman

    Upgrade from Manjaro 21.3 to Manjaro 22.0 can be done with Pacman and the command pacman -Syu via the command line or the graphical package manager Pamac.
