The much-heralded PCIe 5.0 SSDs with 10 GB/s or more will miss 2022 – that much is almost certain. But the CES 2023 should at least serve as a stage for the presentation in two weeks. Adata wants to bring its model with 14 GB/s and up to 8 TB of storage space. There's also news for DDR5, power supplies and cases.
Adata had already revealed these key data of the “XPG PCIe Gen5 SSD” in the summer and also showed a first picture. According to previous information, the SM2508 controller from Silicon Motion is supposed to be hidden under the cooler with its cooling fins and backplate. Via the PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, which enables almost 16 GB/s gross, the SSD of the XPG series for gamers should read data sequentially with up to 14 GB/s and write sequentially with up to 12 GB/s. That's pretty much double what current high-end PCIe 4.0 x4 SSDs achieve.
XPG PCIe Gen5 SSD (Image: Adata)With random 4K transfers (4K random), a peak of 1.8 million IOPS when reading and 1.6 million IOPS when writing should be possible. Experience has shown that the values are only achieved under ideal conditions in benchmarks; but that was always the case. The XPG PCIe Gen5 SSD should offer a maximum of 8 TB of storage space, which is a lot for this format. A market launch with initially smaller storage capacities is likely.
However, the current notification from Adata does not mention these technical details from the summer and does not show a picture of the SSD either. So it remains to be seen whether there will be changes in the end.
DDR5-8000, ATX 3.0 power supply and more

In terms of RAM, things will also get faster in January: Adata wants to present the XPG CASTER DDR5 DRAM with up to 8,000 MT/s aka DDR5-8000. Other manufacturers are also targeting this brand, which was previously only relevant for overclockers.
Other innovations that Adata is planning for CES 2023 include the XPG ATX 3.0 power supply FUSION 1600 W Titanium, the E-ATX Battlecruiser II case or, apart from the consumer products, the first memory modules for the Compute Express Link aka CXL Memory.
At an event Adata should provide more information at the start of the CES. A countdown is already running.
