From now on you can include select Sonos speakers in your Aqara system, so you can connect with these speakers and bring them into your smart home scenes and automations.

It is a remarkable collaboration between a company that mainly focuses on budget products (Aqara) and a company that often sells more expensive products (Sonos). It works with the following speakers, among others: Sonos Arc, Beam Gen 2, Five, Move, One, Roam SL, and Sub (Gen 3). A somewhat larger home cinema system with multiple speakers is also possible.

To give an example of such an automation, you can have your favorite playlist playing as soon as you get home. The Aqara G3 camera recognizes that it's you and activates your own ‘Welcome home’ scene. You can also easily operate your Sonos speaker with the new Aqara Cube T1 Pro, for example by shaking for the next song or rotating to adjust the sound volume. All automations can be scheduled in the Aqara app.

In a manual, Aqara explains how to link your Sonos equipment. After setting up your Aqara and Sonos system, open the Aqara app and give Aqara permission to control your Sonos system. You can then set the automations for the Sonos speakers. You can choose from various actions: previous/next track, volume +1, volume -1, mute, unmute, pause, play, toggle (play/pause), play specific playlist, set volume and so on. This is the first step in further expanding the Aqara system with third-party devices and the manufacturer promises more is in the pipeline. That's promising.

You can buy the Cube in the photo for around 17 euros at Amazon.
