– In order to protect taxpayers' money and maintain trust in the welfare systems, the government is now taking a new, important step. With the establishment of the Paying Authority, the work to combat fraud and grant crimes is strengthened, says Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson.

The Paying Authority will have two main tasks. One task is to work with the prevention, prevention and detection of incorrect payments. The second task is to be responsible for the administration of payments from certain government agencies.

The new authority must be able to review payments using data analysis and sampling to identify fraud and grant violations.

Government authorities and certain other actors, such as unemployment funds, must under certain conditions provide information to the Paying Authority. The disbursing authority must in turn also notify other authorities and relevant actors in the event of fraud and grant violations as well as in the event of other inaccuracies.

– One of the most serious threats to our welfare is organized crime that exploits the systems for their own gain. The state's ability to fight welfare crimes needs to be improved considerably, and the establishment of the Disbursement Authority is a big step in the right direction to be able to combat fraud and benefit crimes, says Elisabeth Svantesson.
