Vodafone reports current figures on the expansion of mobile communications with LTE and 5G. According to this, at least 98 percent of households in all federal states are now connected to the LTE network with at least 100 Mbit/s. A key requirement of the Federal Network Agency's coverage requirements from 2019 is thus fulfilled.
In the last few weeks, Vodafone has once again been using excavators and cranes to close 127 dead spots, according to Vodafone. In all federal states, at least 98 percent of households can now be supplied with LTE at at least 100 Mbit/s, nationwide it is around 99 percent of households.
Referred to the entire year Vodafone set up 594 new LTE stations and installed LTE technology at 460 existing cell phone sites for the first time. For the period since the last mobile auction in July 2019, shortly after the 5G frequencies were offered, the company has recorded a total of 2,600 new builds and 3,700 upgrades to LTE technology.
Federal Network Agency requires 100 Mbit/s
As a result of the measures, the network operator declares that the central requirement for the supply requirements of the Federal Network Agency has been met. The 2019 coverage requirements stipulate that by the end of 2022 the providers will supply 98 percent of the households in each federal state and all federal motorways, the most important federal roads and the railways with at least 100 Mbit/s. In the current announcement, Vodafone only refers to households. According to the Federal Network Agency, by the end of 2024 all other federal roads should also be supplied with at least 100 Mbit/s, all state and state roads, the seaports and most important waterways and all other rail routes in Germany with at least 50 Mbit/s.
2G and 5G statistics
The Vodafone mobile network has a total of more than 26,000 mobile stations. In addition to LTE with around 99 percent of households, the group reaches 99.8 percent of the population with 2G. Vodafone currently names 80 percent of the population or 65 million people for the 5G standard. This year, the company has deployed 5,450 5G sites with more than 16,000 additional antennas, bringing 5G to 36,000 antennas. With “5G+”, the own name for 5G standalone, there are 3,000 stations with 9,000 antennas for 20 million people.
