Fria Tider has reported extensively on the criminal allegations against top official Sam Brinton, who was fired Monday from his position as deputy director of the United States' nuclear fuel disposal agency. The high-profile transvestite and LGBTQ activist Brinton is suspected of stealing suitcases full of women's clothing at airports in Minneapolis and Las Vegas.
Last week, a Las Vegas court ordered Brinton to be arrested. The order was enforced on Wednesday when Brinton was arrested and arraigned in Las Vegas, Fox News reports.
After the court hearing, Brinton was released on condition that he posted a bond of 15,000 dollars, equivalent to roughly 150,000 SEK. The bond was granted as security for Brinton to appear in court at a later hearing when the suspicions about the theft in Las Vegas may be tested.
On Monday next week, it is time for Brinton to appear in court again . Then the prosecution against Brinton for having stolen a suitcase at the airport in Minneapolis will be tried. That suitcase also belonged to a female traveler and contained women's clothing.
According to information in the indictment, Brinton has admitted that he took the bag at the airport in Minneapolis, but claims that it happened by mistake. According to the police, however, Brinton himself had not checked in any luggage when he flew to Minneapolis. He should therefore have had no reason to retrieve any bag at all.
Brinton says, according to the police, that after discovering the “mistake” he left the women's clothes in the suitcase in a hotel room, but took the bag from there. Police say Brinton has been asked to return the bag but has not.
If convicted, Brinton faces 10 years in prison for the Las Vegas theft and five years in prison for the Minneapolis theft.
