Domestic. The police in region Mitt have carried out a large number of operations against people suspected of child pornography offences. A total of 62 strikes were made.

The arrests were made at addresses in Västmanland, Gävleborgs län and Uppsala län during weeks 41, 45 and 49, and a total of 72 people were questioned, all of whom were served with suspicion of crime.
The purpose of the operations has been to prosecute suspected persons who have children of their own or who have children in their vicinity and to identify and stop any ongoing sexual abuse.
– Child pornography crime is an area of crime that is constantly growing and the targeted efforts during the autumn are a way to gather strength to handle the large influx of cases. Many police officers who do not usually work with Internet-related sexual crimes against children have been involved, says Emma Vangstad, group leader at the investigative group for the investigation of Internet-related sexual abuse against children (ISÖB).
62 people were detained and a large amount of child pornography material was seized. All those detained were released, but the suspicions of possession of child pornography and the distribution of child pornography remain.
– Now we are entering an investigative phase to deal with the seizures and interrogations generated by the operation. The investigative phase is expected to last at least three months, says Emma Vangstad on the police's website.
