Intel Arc 31.0.101.3975 Beta: Driver optimized for The Witcher 3 without HairWorks

It's just a week ago that Intel was able to show massive performance increases in DirectX 9 games with driver version Arc 31.0.101.3959. Now Arc 31.0.101.3975 (Release Notes) is the next beta driver, which primarily brings optimizations for the next-gen update to The Witcher 3.

Optimizations for four games

While the previous update to version number 31.0.101.3959 brought numerous improvements, especially noticeable in benchmarks, the patch notes for Arc 31.0.101.3975 read very briefly. Aside from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Intel also promises optimizations for the Metroidvania first-person shooter High on Life, the free-to-play MMO Conqueror's Blade and the battle royale classic PUBG: Battlegrounds. In the latter case, the performance is said to have increased by up to 4 percent compared to the Arc 31.0.101.3959 WHQL.

Games with optimized performance
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Next Gen Update
  • High on Life
  • Conqueror's Blade
  • PUBG Battlegrounds

Compared to the up to 300 percent improved 1 percentile FPS measured by the editors with the Arc A770 Limited Edition 16 GB (test) in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive through the previous Arc driver, such performance increases seem almost insignificant.< /p>

No bug fixes and many problem areas

What is unusual is that the new graphics driver comes without the obligatory bug fixes – if the patch notes are to be believed, nothing has changed here compared to the previous version Intel Arc 31.0.101.3959. So it is not surprising that the list of still open errors has grown noticeably. A new addition, for example, was the note that the HairWorks engine plugin developed by Nvidia for a more realistic representation of hair and fur is currently not supported in the next-gen update for The Witcher 3 on Arc graphics cards.
