Last winter, the Special Prosecutor's Chamber began a so-called preliminary investigation into the appointment, following a critical report from police researcher Stefan Holgersson. Then there was never a preliminary investigation.
Now, however, Åsbäck tells Ekot that it is information in the media in the last week that is behind the decision.
– There has now been information that threw a new light on what we already knew, says Bengt Åsbäck about the preliminary investigation that has been started.
– If there was a relationship damaging to trust between those involved at the same time as the appointment was made, then Löfving's bias can be questioned.
According to Åsbäck, it could be gross misconduct. If it is ordinary misconduct, then the act is time-barred, because the employment was carried out in 2015.
Interrogations will be held with both Staaf and Löfving, and possibly with more people, according to the prosecutor.
