On Friday, the police raided 16 locations in Brussels and, among other things, seized 600,000 euros in cash, mobile phones and computer equipment.
Eva Kaili was arrested in connection with the raid, after Belgian police for four months are said to have been investigating a suspicion that Qatar tried to bribe EU politicians for various decisions in the run-up to the football World Cup, which is currently underway in the Arab country.
“As always, the Parliament is cooperating fully with the national authorities,” says the parliament's press service in a statement.
