At 1:30 a.m. this Friday, December 9th, the live stream for this year's Game Awards will start, moderated by Geoff Keighley. It's the last major game showcase of the year. Valve is giving away numerous Steam decks to viewers of its own broadcast on Steam.tv.

Dozens of prizes and announcements

The Game Awards – not to be confused with the Steam Awards, which are currently in the nomination phase – have now been in existence for eight years. The focus is on the award ceremony for video games in a total of 31 categories, with all nominations being available on the relevant The Game Awards website. The event follows the tradition of the Spike Video Game Awards, which were presented by Canadian industry insider and presenter Geoff Keighley from 2003 to 2013. Since 2019, he has also acted as the host of the Summer Game Fest, which is considered a replacement or competitor to E3.

Meanwhile, the Game Awards 2022 will once again feature numerous new products and innovations expected for already released games; a total of 30 to 40 games should be dealt with. The focus should primarily be on gameplay trailers, after the frequent appearance of cinematic trailers in recent years has led to criticism from viewers. Games with a confirmed place in the showcase include the following titles.

  • Among Us
  • Baldur's Gate 3
  • Dune Awakening
  • Final Fantasy XVI< /li>
  • Nightingale
  • Star Wars Jedi Survivor
  • Tekken 8
  • The Last of Us (TV Series)
  • 505 Games (new game announcement)

Apart from that, some top-class games and extensions that have not yet been officially announced or confirmed for the Game Awards are expected, which can be found in the following list.

  • Dead Space (Remake)
  • Diablo IV (Release Date)
  • Elden Ring (Addon )
  • Hideo Kojima is set to make an appearance
  • Metal Gear Solid 5 (Remake)
  • Pragmata
  • Redfall
  • Street Fighter 6

Valve is giving away a steam deck every 60 seconds

Although the live stream for the Game Awards can be accessed via various channels, Valve provides a good reason to watch via Steam.tv: The Steam operator is giving away all viewers from the EU, UK, Canada and the USA on Steam.tv 60 seconds a steam deck. It is even the most expensive variant with a recommended retail price of 679.00 euros with a 512 GB NVMe SSD, anti-reflective glass and a carrying case. Anyone interested in the raffle must register in advance.

However, the total number of handheld consoles raffled is not fixed. Last year, the live stream for the Game Awards ran for around three hours, but this time the event will be shorter, as Keighley confirmed in advance: the event had recently been tiring for many viewers.
