According to a new poll from Yahoo News/YouGov, Ron DeSantis leads by five percentage points against Donald Trump among voters who sympathize with the Republicans.
In previous polls, Trump – who recently launched his presidential campaign – had a reassuring lead.
Media reporting has been extra harsh on Donald Trump lately. The dinner with Kanye West and Nick Fuentes at Trump's house in Florida has received a lot of attention. In addition, Trump's corporate empire has been indicted for tax violations in New York. His new campaign has also drawn criticism from the right for being far too tame.
In the new poll, 47 percent say they would vote for DeSantis in a primary, compared to 42 percent for Trump.
Ron DeSantis is popular in Florida, where he has profiled himself as an opponent of the politically correct so-called woke culture and a champion of Israel. He has not yet announced that he is running for president.
