The rape took place on board the Viking Mariella in January 2012.

The then 19-year-old Somali was convicted later that year of rape by the Court of Appeal. However, he received a heavily discounted sentence due to his low stated age and got away with a year and a half in prison. He was also supposed to pay damages of SEK 85,000 to the victim.

But after the rapist stayed away for ten years, the sentence is now time-barred.

The prosecutor had not even requested that he be deported, so he can also continue to stay in Sweden if he wants.

The Somali came to Sweden in 2010 and was previously registered in Motala. He has been registered as missing with the Tax Agency since the summer of 2018, writes Expressen.
