Later this month, Apple plans to add a karaoke feature called Apple Music Sing to its Apple Music streaming service. The feature is to be offered to all subscribers worldwide and can be used on iPhone, iPad and the new Apple TV 4K. Competitors such as Spotify or Amazon also support karaoke.

Apple Music Sing is designed to invite you to sing along by adjusting the volume of the song's original vocals to make them more or less dominant replace it with your own voice. Large, animated song texts that move to the rhythm of the original song should ensure the right flow.

Apple isolates original song

< p class="p text-width">Apple names tens of millions of songs that can be used for Apple Music Sing. With 9to5mac, it is assumed that the songs must be in Dolby Atmos so that Apple can extract the voices so that the volume can be adjusted by the user. In fact, a machine learning algorithm runs on the supported devices, which isolates the vocals in real time so that they can be adjusted according to the user's wishes, as Apple confirmed in an interview with Mashable. The original vocals can be reduced to a minimum, but not removed entirely to obtain an instrumental.

Playlists planned for karaoke songs

In addition to the adjustable vocal volume and the animated lyrics, the background vocals of a song are also supported by Apple Music Sing, which is visualized separately so that the song can be followed more easily and several people can sing along at the same time. Especially for songs that are sung in a duet, there is a split view of the lyrics. Apple also plans to release 50 playlists later this month whose songs are particularly well suited for the karaoke function.

According to Apple, there are no restrictions on the support of the karaoke function for the iPhone and iPad, but the Apple TV only supports the latest Apple TV 4K, which was introduced in mid-October and now uses the A15 Bionic instead of the A12 Bionic. There are no regional restrictions for Apple Music Sing, the only requirement for use is a paid subscription to Apple Music.

Spotify and Amazon Music also offer karaoke

Apple is not the first provider of a music streaming service with karaoke functionality. Spotify first tested a similar feature in Asia last year before rolling it out globally to all users including the free version of the service this summer. With Spotify, the function can also rate your own singing. In addition, Amazon Music also offers a karaoke function and specially curated playlists.
