An Italian online retailer has counted down the days until the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is released. Accordingly, the market launch will take place on January 5, 2023. This date had already been mentioned in the rumor mill and is now considered very likely.
Screenshots show the countdown that retailer Drako.it had on its website for the upcoming Asus GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF. In the meantime, however, the product page only bears the note “PRODOTTO DISABILITATO FUORI CATALOGO NON ORDINABILE”, which means that the product can no longer be ordered. It seems likely that the retailer acted prematurely and revealed the date, which was actually still a secret.
The website WCCFtech had previously brought January 5, 2023 as the alleged date for the market launch of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti into play. The merchant's countdown is now considered a confirmation. If this is the case, then the other dates mentioned for the RTX 4070 Ti could also be correct. Accordingly, the graphics card would first be officially presented on January 3, 2023. In line with this, Nvidia has already scheduled a keynote for CES in Las Vegas on January 3, 5 p.m. German time. Tests should be published from January 4th until the day after the start of sales.
An old acquaintance with 12 GB GDDR6X
The specification of 16 GB GDDR6X causes some confusion in the title of the retailer's now-vanished product page. But this can only be an error, because the description mentions 12 GB GDDR6X, as is the case with all of the now concrete references to the new GeForce graphics card.
Not yet clearly confirmed, but more of an open secret is that the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a renamed GeForce RTX 4080 with 12 GB of memory. After criticism of the large equipment deficit of the small GeForce RTX 4080 compared to the GeForce RTX 4080 with 16 GB, Nvidia briefly discarded the graphics card. It was simply not worthy of the name RTX 4080. Now everything indicates that the small RTX 4080 will see the light of day as the RTX 4070 Ti.
While the GeForce RTX 4090 (test) is equipped with the AD102 graphics chip and the GeForce RTX 4080 (test) is equipped with the AD103, the smaller AD104 is expected for the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. Based on illustrations, the area of the AD104 is estimated to be approximately 295mm². That would make it about half the size of the AD102 with its 608 mm² and also significantly smaller than the predecessor GA104 with 392 mm².
Price yet unknown
If the RTX 4070 Ti takes over the price of the small RTX 4080 variant in addition to the key data, then this would be 899 US dollars (MSRP before taxes) or 1,099 euros (RRP with taxes). It remains to be seen whether Nvidia will make an adjustment to the euro price here, as with the larger models. It also remains to be seen where the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT(X), which will be released in just over a week, will classify in terms of performance. These retail for $999 and $899 respectively. If both compete with the RTX 4080, as AMD intends, and thus beat the RTX 4070 Ti, a downward price correction would be expected.
