In an interview with Hungarian radio on Friday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that he cannot agree to the proposal.

He mentions that the plan involves using the EU countries' respective budgets to take loans that will go to the war in Ukraine.

– We are not behind it because we do not want the EU to become an association of indebted states instead of an association of cooperating member states, says Viktor Orban.

Instead, he wants the member states themselves to decide on possible support for Ukraine and finance it through their own budgets.

– We will not accept the second plan [EU's planned support packages], we will not agree to it and it will not happen without us, says Orban.

The prime minister has previously signaled that Hungary might consider providing Ukraine with 60-70 billion forints bilaterally ( corresponding to SEK 1.6-1.8 billion) from its own budget.
