Cultural news. The China Theater in Stockholm removed the Chinese from its logo after being accused of racism.

– The criticism against the logo is that they have used a classic racist image of an Asian man. It has a very long and violent history here in the West, regardless of what intention the China Theater had when they decided to use it, says cartoonist Lisa Wool-Rim Sjöblom to Kulturnyheterna.
The logo previously had an image of a Chinese with a hat and long moustaches, but that image has now been removed. However, the font is the same as before.
Chinateatern explains the decision in an email to SVT.
“We started the change work when we were alerted that it felt offensive. It was never our intention, we apologize that it did so with regard to the design of the logo”, writes the theatre's operations manager Ulrica Ågren.
The China Theater was designed in 1926 by the architect Albin Stark, who drew inspiration from his stay in China in 1922.
