Last month it was reported that memory maker YMTC, along with 30 other Chinese companies, was at risk of being placed on a US government “blacklist” for trade sanctions. Reuters is now reporting that this step could already be taken at the beginning of December.

In October, an “unverified list” was written for the first time, which YMTC got on with other companies from China , which could face stronger restrictions in the trade dispute with the USA. While this is not yet the official US sanctions list, an entry on it will be seen later in preparation for adoption.

The official one Draft should stand

This week it will be more concrete: Reuters refers to the draft of official documents from the United States Department of Commerce, which the news agency is said to have already been able to take a look at.

It is supposed to it is said that YMTC – along with dozens of other Chinese entities – is at risk of being placed on a “trade blacklist”. A specific date has already been given for this, December 6, 2022.

The companies from China should end up on this list because these checks were denied by US authorities. In this case, a new US guideline provides for such companies to end up on a list for further sanctions.

It has now been confirmed that YMTC and 30 other companies will be affected , unless there is an examination beforehand. There should already be 50 other companies on the list.

License even for “low-tech” imports

If a company ends up on this list, it has to apply for a special license to import US goods. According to Reuters, this even applies to “low-tech articles”. This would have serious consequences for the chip manufacturer YMTC, which is also China's only manufacturer of 3D NAND memory.

In any case, YMTC is threatened with withdrawing from US customers Apple, who wanted to use Chinese 3D NAND in their products.
