The first contact with the Polestar 2, finally in Italy for the preview road test, demonstrates two things. The first is; that the manufacturer is also starting to focus on our country, after a launch that saw the boot among the last given a still non-predominant diffusion of electrics. The second is; that it is a brand that is moving towards maturity; in the electric sector, taking inspiration from those who dominate this market.

Listening to Polestar's words during the presentation press conference, it is clear that some of the characteristics that the company flaunts as distinctive for its brand are nothing more than the re-proposition of what is already available. intuition by the Americans of Tesla. The simplifications of a direct drive, without ignition buttons but with a sensor that turns on the car when it recognizes the pressure on the seat and starts it with the simple selection of the gearbox in drive, for example, it is a personally much appreciated feature, now also benefiting Polestar. Or the comfort; to open the door after driving and see the mode automatically activated; of parkingwith electronic parking brake – nothing new, but a sign of the changing times and the special attention paid to software and its implementations in the car. An "if this, then that" well known to those who have at least learned the rudiments of programming.

Your software is the only one you need. a predominant elementat Polestar, thanks to OTA updates that embrace the entire car, not just the infotainment. Impossible not to mention, once again, the pioneer Tesla, but the choice to have copied from the best, artfully implementing the practices now consolidated by the Americans, bodes well for the future of the brand.
Another aspect of sincerity is which deserves appreciation, then, regards the choice of Android Auto: infotainment still has its main use in navigation, and in the past there were only a few (including Tesla) who developed an integrated solution worthy of the fluidity of the navigation system. and the features; of smartphones. For this Polestar has chosen to rely completely on the best in the field of navigation, mounting Android Automotive which on the vertical screen of the Polestar 2 is; fluid, complete, connected with Play Store apps and even a small space is left for iOS users thanks to the integration of Apple CarPlay. But not Android Auto since you just need to log in with your account in the native interface.
Excellent for not stressing the smartphone battery by connecting it with the cable (or without), less so for those who often share the car and would instead find it convenient to plug in a cable and switch profiles on the fly.
FIRST CONTACT
Waiting for a test drive in the warm season, the November debut saw a Polestar 2 with Nokian winter tires, excellent on snow but more difficult. suitable for Northern European climates in terms of rigidity; of the compound, the first road test of the electric fastback took place; turning around Milan, with a visit to the Brianza hills to look for some more bends; Interesting.
Here the sedan has shown that it has the typical dynamic qualities of the Volvo sports brand in its blood, which has now become half-converted; between sportsmanship & agrave; and electric world, even if the decision to propose front-wheel driveleave some the bitter in the mouth to those who are accustomed to associating sportsmanship with to the rear drive wheels. Let's be clear, the Polestar 2 doesn't drive badly even with the single engine: 170 kW, 330 Nm instantly discharged to the ground, a fairly precise even if not very direct steering, allow you to appreciate the curves, allowing that familiarity in the reactions to which it is most of the public is used to: those who have driven a sports rear-wheel drive, in fact, represent a higher percentage; smaller than we might imagine.
The "cycling" it is then cured, with a successful set-up that tends to be rigid, guarantees the right support but breaks the back less than a Model 3 (to stay in the electric world). And the Ohlins from the Performance package, then they'll add that extra bit of performance. since they remain among the best on the market and also have the advantage of being adjustable if the factory setup does not suit you. If you really don't digest front-wheel drive, though, there's a lot of options. always the version with two engines and four driving wheels, the one to choose for those who want more; driving pleasure and safety in all conditions, including low-grip surfaces.

Choosing to reduce the speed of the upload is not allowed. maximum can; make you turn up your nose, but it is; faithful to the Swedish tradition that wants maximum safety, which also passes from more limited limits; low, with the benefit of lower consumption given their relationship with the square of the speed.
Precisely in terms of consumption, the first brief contact with Polestar 2 is; very encouraging: we will soon put it to the test in the Brianzaring, but 18 kWh in a multi-tested course where Model 3 reaches 16 kWh and other electric cars reach 20 kWh, suggests very interesting performance in terms of efficiency. And, regardless of consumption data, with its 78 kWh gross/nominal battery and (75 kWh net) the Polestar 2 Long Range with single motor (a permanent magnet synchronous) gets 400/430 km of real rangein an urban + extra-urban cycle, excluding the motorway.
Polestar 2 recharges up to a maximum of 155 kW in direct current with the 78 kWh battery, up to 130 kW (DC) with the 69 kWh battery. The 78 kWh battery uses NMC bag cells, while the 69 kWh one uses prismatic cells, again with NMC chemistry.
It means that in my typical week, little more than of 50 km per day, no need to recharge it, a good result obtained thanks to the battery pack with bag cells and NMC chemistry (Nickel, Manganese, Cobalt). Does it reach the 540 km promised by the WLTP cycle? Probably not, unless you adopt an eco-marathon runner's guide, however; from this first test & egrave; able to give a hard time to all the others.
He promoted one-pedal driving, configurable and done well and the integration between regeneration and hydraulic brake system.
