Two civilians are said to have been killed in an explosion in the village of Przewodow in NATO country Poland on the border with Ukraine.

In Poland, Russia is accused of being behind the attack.

Images from the scene appear to show remnants of the S-300 robot, which Ukraine uses for air defense.

– The first information said that there were two robots, well then the probability that it was a mistake and that there was something wrong is much lower, but then it could be a target. But at the same time some of the wreckage seems to look like it is S-300 anti-aircraft which could be a Ukrainian robot that has shot down Russian robots. So in this situation, we just have to wait and see, says Oscar Jonsson, researcher at the Norwegian Defense Academy, in SVT's “Aktuellt”.

However, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that it is a Russian-made robot.

Russia flatly denies having anything to do with the attack. The accusations from the Polish side are “a deliberate provocation to escalate the situation”, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

U.S. President Joe Biden has had an “urgent” phone call with Polish President Andrzej Duda late in the evening, writes Duda's presidential office on Twitter.

Poland has called NATO's ambassadors to a meeting to discuss NATO's Article 4. This article is used so that the members of the alliance can act together when a member is threatened. It is therefore not about Article 5, which declares that an attack on one member state is an attack on all.

Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) comments on the incident in a post on Twitter.

”Disturbing reports of explosions and casualties in Poland, near the Ukrainian border. My thoughts are with the victims, their families and the Polish people. The Swedish government is following developments carefully,” he writes.
