Anyone who is interested in completely passively cooled PC systems will certainly be familiar with the FanlessTech website. Now the operators have presented their own concept for the CPU cooler of their dreams. This has circular slats with a large spacing and hole structure.
“We believe that between the $110 Noctua NH-P1 and the $15 Alpine 12 Passive there is room for an $80 option for 65-watt processors,” the cooler concept said. The graphics are by the German designer Noah Beerstecher and were created based on a design by FanlessTech from 2018.
An unfamiliar sight
The 18 fins of the tower cooler are not angular as usual, but circular and their distance from each other is large, as this is beneficial to heat dissipation in purely passive operation without an active air flow in the housing. The relatively thick aluminum discs are also perforated with numerous holes, which promotes the effect of thermal convection.

Five 8 mm thick heat pipes connect the fins to each other and converge in a solid copper block with additional cooling fins. In theory, the overall construction should weigh 1 kg, a high weight but not unusual for large tower coolers.
First just an idea
FanlessTech dreams of “such a cooler could be a game changer”. , but also concedes that the design would be “quite a challenge to manufacture.” Since only the heat pipes support the fins in the study, it would also be conceivable that additional reinforcement would be required in practice to ensure more stability.
Ultimately it is just a well thought-out idea in terms of passive cooling, the feasibility and effectiveness of which would first have to be proven. “Let's see if a manufacturer is interested,” FanlessTech wrote on Twitter, without revealing whether there are any plans to implement it as a real product.
Let's see if a manufacturer is interested 😉
