Microsoft is once again in vogue and this year again presents a Windows-inspired Ugly Christmas sweater, which this time uses the Clippit (“Clippy”) assistant integrated in Office 97 to 2003. alias Karl Klammer. The company donates $100,000 to the charity.
Hommage to Clippy alias Karl Klammer
This year's Microsoft Ugly Christmas sweater pays homage to former office assistant Karl Klammer, who first helped Windows users on December 30, 1996 with Microsoft Office 97 and shortly thereafter with Microsoft Office 98 for Mac. Clippy later achieved a cult status that is still resisting today.

The assistant was linked to the Office Help content and was included with Microsoft Office for Windows (versions 97 through 2003), Microsoft Publisher (versions 98 through 2003), and Microsoft Office for Mac (versions 98 through 2004). Now Clippit, as it is officially called, is supposed to raise money for a good cause.
- The Ugly Christmas Sweater is available for purchase from the online store for $74.99 and is sold only in the US.
- Microsoft donates $100,000 to the College Success Foundation (CSF ), which helps underprivileged and low-income students gain access to college.
- Microsoft also offers custom background images with Clippy for Microsoft Teams.

Ugly Christmas sweaters are in fashion
It's not just Microsoft that releases the Ugly Christmas sweater every year is relaunching, has taken a liking to the “ugly” Christmas sweaters and so the discounter Lidl, the private brewery Paulaner and Amazon, among others, also offer particularly “beautiful” sweaters for Christmas.
With the Heatable Capsule Collection (HCC) 2.0, Deutsche Telekom also offers heated clothing that can be controlled via smartphone especially for the cold season.
