Economics. The state dental support and high-cost cover are based on reference prices that are often exceeded, especially by private healthcare providers. Now Försäkringskassan warns that the forms of protection are counteracted by the high prices.

In a new analysis from Försäkringskassan, it appears that the actual prices almost always exceed the reference prices – most of all with private care providers.
The care providers' prices are in principle always higher than the reference prices. The private care providers' prices are 11 percent above the reference prices, compared to public dental care's prices, which are 5 percent higher.
This makes the protection less effective.
− When the care providers' prices exceed the reference prices, the high-cost protection becomes less effective . Patients have to pay more for their treatments, and the subsidy covers a smaller part of their costs, says Lars Sjödin, expert on dental care issues at the Social Insurance Agency, in a statement.
