– The war is not free, says foreignminister Tobias Billström (M) to TT in connection with Monday's meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels.

Countries such as Hungary, Italy, Slovenia and Austria pressed during the meeting for the EU to work for peace in Ukraine.

A line that Sweden strongly opposes.

– It is Ukraine's territorial sovereignty that has been violated. It is Ukraine that has been subjected to this Russian aggression. Then it is also reasonable that it is Ukraine that determines the conditions for this, says Tobias Billström.

Sweden thus adheres to the American doctrine that the Ukraine war should be prolonged with the aim of depleting Russia's military capabilities and making Vladimir Putin more unpopular at home.

The EU's finance ministers are to make a final decision on the issue of the financing of continued warfare in December.

Monday's meeting between the foreign ministers was mainly about how the EU the countries must jointly express themselves about the war, and to what extent the parties should be called to peace or not.
