Lian Li Lancool 216: Housing with “external fan” is supposed to help the GPU

The Lancool 216 is a case that promises good cooling performance with large fans and all sorts of tricks such as an external fan mount. The focus on the temperature of the built-in components has gained in importance in 2022: With high-end graphics cards such as the RTX 4090, the volume and clock rates depend heavily on the case.

The factory fan assembly is already unusual. Because in the front there are two fans with an untypical diameter of 160 millimeters, which spin between 500 and 1,600 rpm. They are supplemented by a 140 mm fan in the rear (200 – 1,800 rpm). In the RGB version of the 216, the front fans also light up in two zones. The frame and the LEDs in the fan hub can be controlled separately. The fans are controlled via a fan hub, which can operate a maximum of four fans.

Radiators can be used up to a size of 360 mm. A removable bracket on the lid simplifies assembly. With smaller radiators or when fewer than three fans are used, a cover for unused fan positions should help guide the air through the fins in a targeted manner.

Lancool has come up with a special trick for cooling the graphics card. Fans on the power supply tunnel, which suck in air through a side mesh grille and blow it directly to the graphics card, are already familiar from other cases from the manufacturer; an external fan mount, however, not yet. It accommodates a 120mm fan and can be placed behind the expansion slots to draw air out of the tower through the slot brackets. It doesn't matter whether the graphics card is mounted horizontally or vertically.

Basically, Lancool builds the 216 is also flexible. When using water cooling, the mainboard can be moved down so that thicker radiators can be placed under the cover. The I/O panel can also be placed either on the top of the front or on the bottom left of the side.

CPU cooler, graphics card and power supply fit without restrictions. Only the mainboard needs a closer look: Despite E-ATX support, the board must not be wider than 280 mm.

Dust filters become accessories

In the unlit basic version, the Lancool 216 costs around 100 US dollars, 10 US dollars surcharge is due for the RGB version, which is available in white or black. Lian Li also sells accessories. An ARGB control module enables LED control on the front panel for around 14 US dollars. A PCIe 4.0 riser cable for vertical mounting of the graphics card and a dust filter for the front are also available as accessories. When the Lancool 216 will be available in Germany is still unknown.
