Less performance in games: Microsoft is stopping the update to Windows 11 2022 for the time being
Microsoft has announced that the update to Windows 11 2022 (“22H2”) may reduce performance in games and lead to stuttering and picture dropouts and that the update of the operating system will therefore be temporarily suspended. The feature update is blocked for the time being by means of an update lock (“Safeguard Hold”).
Users who are still running Windows 11 21H2, the initial release of Windows 11, on their computer system will not be offered an automatic update to the latest feature update Windows 11 2022 for the time being and should not update their PC manually either .

Microsoft has now included this problem in the still well-filled list of open problems and has already assigned corresponding protection IDs, so-called “Safeguard Holds”, which temporarily prevent an update.
Slower than expected performance in some games
Some games and applications may experience slower performance on Windows 11, version 22H2 than expected or stuttering.
Affected games and apps inadvertently enable non-consumer GPU debugging features.
To protect your upgrade experience, we have placed a compatibility hold on systems affected by this issue from being offered or installed with Windows 11 version 22H2.
If the child has already fallen into the well and Windows 11 2022 has already been installed, Microsoft has a workaround at hand, which will not necessarily solve the problem.< /p>
Workaround for affected systems
If you are already running Windows 11, version 22H2 and If you experience this problem, you can fix it by updating your games and apps to the latest version available.
If you are not sure how to update the games and apps you have installed, you need to contact contact the developer of those games and apps.
However, most games and apps will update automatically from the store they were purchased from or directly upon opening.
However, the recommendation to update the respective game or app or to contact the relevant developer seems a bit haphazard and helpless and reads much more like a standard recommendation when troubleshooting. Microsoft also knows this and is therefore already working on an update that should fix the problem.
Players should avoid Windows 11 2022 for the time being
Microsoft explicitly advises against performing a manual upgrade to Windows 11 2022 via Windows Update or the Media Creation Tool before the problem has been finally resolved.
We are working on a solution and will provide this as an update in one of the next versions of Windows 11. We recommend that you do not upgrade manually using the “Upgrade Now” button. or the Media Creation Tool until this issue is resolved and the protections removed.
