Razer Wolverine V2 Pro: Customizable controller for PS5 and PC costs 300 euros

Following last year's Wolverine V2 Chroma for Xbox, Razer brings the Razer Wolverine V2 Pro to PS5 and PC, a similarly designed controller that's wireless and customizable. At 300 euros, it is more expensive than the Sony DualSense Edge, which can be pre-ordered for 240 euros and will be released at the end of January 2023.

Stick attachments and 6 programmable buttons

Unlike the DualSense Edge, the Wolverine V2 Pro uses an analog stick reminiscent of the Xbox controller and diagonally positioned sticks instead of side by side. Two additional attachments for the analog sticks included in the scope of delivery can be exchanged magnetically: one is short and convex, the other high and concave. The Wolverine V2 Pro has six programmable buttons, four of them as additional triggers on the back and two bumpers next to the standard triggers. In order to assign individual functions to the buttons, however, the controller must be connected to an iPhone or Android smartphone via Bluetooth – but games on the smartphone cannot be controlled via Bluetooth.

Mouse click buttons without vibration

According to Razer, the actuation travel of the “Mecha-Tactile Action Buttons”. ' of the controller is just 0.65mm, which is said to be 30 percent less than the average membrane controller. This is said to speed up key input and provide better tactility. In general, these buttons feel more like mouse clicks than regular controller buttons, which takes some getting used to.

However, the Wolverine V2 Pro does not offer haptic feedback via vibration motors.

Customizable Triggers

Like the Wolverine V2 Chroma and the DualSense Edge, the triggers' travel can be shortened via switches on the back to act as normal buttons. In this way, the use can be switched, for example for acceleration in racing games or clicks in action games. In Razer's marketing, this feature is called “Razer HyperTrigger Technology”.

In addition to an 8-way micro-switch D-Pad, the Wolverine V2 Pro also features a 3.5mm analog audio jack that is compatible with both PS5 and Windows PCs.

PS5 buttons, touchpad and Razer Chroma

The fact that the controller is primarily aimed at owners of a PlayStation 5 is shown not only by the white and black design, but above all by the touchpad, the PS button and the mute button for the microphone. The controller also supports Razer Chroma RGB with over 16.8 million colors and a range of effects that can be configured via the Razer Controller app for iOS and Android.

Wireless with 2.4 GHz dongle or via USB

To ensure low latency, the controller comes with a USB-A dongle that connects it to your console or PC over a 2.4GHz connection. Alternatively, it can also be connected with a USB cable, Razer supplies a 3 meter long USB-C to USB-A cable for this purpose. The corresponding mode is changed using switches on the back.

Razer states the size and weight of the Wolverine V2 Pro as 105.75 × 167.5 × 65.2 mm (L × W × H) and 279 grams. The battery life should be up to 28 hours if no RGB lighting is used. Razer Chroma reduces battery life to up to 10 hours.
