The Republicans have so far won clearly more mandates than the Democrats in the elections for the House of Representatives.
But in the Senate it is very even and it is currently not possible to predict which party will to prevail. In four states, Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin and Nevada, the votes are still being counted.
In Georgia, so far, the candidates are so evenly matched that there could be a runoff. Then it may take until December before the question of which party will control the Senate is decided.
In Arizona, a scandal has arisen over vote counting machines that did not work. In Maricopa County, about 20 percent of the 223 polling places have had problems with the machines.
Former President Donald Trump is one of those who suggest that it's all about voter fraud.
“A new big bill problem in arizona. Sound familiar???” writes Trump on his social media platform Truth Social.
If the Republicans were to gain a majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, President Joe Biden would be tied down by Congress during the last two years of his mandate.
