Stellantis starts production of Fuel Cell commercial vehicles in Hordain

Stellantis' strategy for zero-emission vehicles also goes through the Fuel Cell for light commercial vehicles . In this regard, the automotive group led by Carlos Tavares announced that at the site in Hordain , in the region of Upper France, & egrave; mass production of Peugeot, Citroen and Opel light commercial vehicles, equipped with hydrogen Fuel Cell technology, has begun.

This announcement confirms Stellantis' commitment to invest in its French industrial system consisting of 12 plants and the will & agrave; not to separate their activities between the electrical and thermal sectors, with the aim of involving all employees in the energy transition .

PRODUCTION ON AN INDUSTRIAL SCALE

The Fuel Cell commercial vehicles will be built on the site's multi-energy line that already has; produces versions with electric and thermal motorization. After the body and platform assembly phase, the vehicles will then be transferred to a new 8,000 m2 facility entirely dedicated to the finalization of the product. Here, a dedicated team will take care of; of the installation of the tanks, batteries and fuel cells on a production line of the plant, allowing to reduce the time compared to the old small-scale production process, which involved the assembly of fuel at a pilot workshop in R & uuml; sselsheim.


In this way it will be & agrave; possible increase production of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, currently sold only in some European countries. As of 2024, the site will have; a capacity production of 5,000 Fuel Cell vehicles per year. The Hordain plant & egrave; at the heart of Stellantis' commercial vehicle business strategy. Inside, 2,440 employees work over 3 shifts, with a daily production of 628 vehicles. In 2021, the plant assembled 144,650 vehicles. Carlos Tavares , CEO of Stellantis, commented:
