The success in other EU countries has contributed to Jeff Bezos' position as the world's richest man. Here is his yacht Y721, which cost the equivalent of five billion kroner.

Amazon, which created controversy by stepping in and shutting down the IT services of Trump-friendly platforms in the middle of the American election campaign, has, despite its aggressive political activism, been a commercial success story in large parts of the EU.

But in Sweden, e-commerce is already established with many niche websites with fast and easy payment via Paypal, Klarna, Swish and the like. Shipping costs are also often free, while Amazon often sends its goods from warehouses in Spain or Germany, with high shipping costs as a result.

Prisjakt has analyzed 141,000 goods from Swedish Amazon. The products mapped are sold by at least three other competing platforms and according to the study, the left-wing giant was only the cheapest in roughly three out of ten cases.

That Amazon would have difficulty establishing itself in that market is no surprise. It is simply difficult for the American left-wing company to keep the lowest price when Swedish players already have price competition that works.

– Our study shows that consumers can find a lower price at Swedish stores instead of Amazon in six out of ten cases, says Ebba Ljungberg, consumer expert at Prisjakt.
